Just finished an oak + red spruce, ladder brace, 12 fret, J-185. It is my attempt at a fancy guitar based on some of the work that Gibson did on guitars and banjos in the 20's and 30's. It was a lot of fun and I was able to involve a couple of local craftspeople. By the way, did you know a banjo is a guitar whose parents were first cousins? The oak and red spruce will take a while to open up, but for now it has that ladder braced sound with a bit less sustain and a bluesy sound. Here is the guitar: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ruby1638/20982107379/in/album-72157649776959267/ And for those of you who haven't seen this sort of thing enough times, here is the whole thing: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ruby1638/16542043212/in/album-72157649776959267/ Ed |

Wow! That's lovely, and it took some guts. ![]() I'm sure the sound will open up. FWIW I prefer ladder braced guitars with medium or a bit thicker strings, but I'm sure it depends... |
